If a speech/presentation is long then a break is usually welcome. Here's an interesting way to make a break a little different (This happened to me recently): ask all the people sat towards the back to come and sit near the front, and all the people at the front to move towards the back.
6.
Audience participation - ensure you get them thinking throughout all stages of the presentation. . Get them involved by asking a question and declaring that in a moment you will randomly choose several audience members to give their thoughts on the question. Thus everyone in the audience will think about the question.
5.
Under some of their seats, tape envelopes containing a word or phrase. In your presentation, get everyone to see if they have an envelope and get people who have one to open it and read out what it says. Could be a question you can answer or you could make them all connected to the subject and just ask, "What' s the connection?"
4.
If using PowerPoint (and do consider not) use only pictures on your slides - no words and absolutely no bullet points
3.
Present a seemingly unrelated strange photo and then tie it to your point. Do this consistently throughout your presentation so they're constantly wondering why on earth the photo you're showing is relevant.
2.
Try to be more animated and use expressions people in the audience will relate to.

Use stories and metaphors it works really well for me. Read "Made to Stick", an excerpt from the book is on http://www.madetostick.com
