Open Brainstorms

What do you think of this idea? Is it doable? Is it worth doing?

The idea is that bloggers would be able to display missing people on the side of their blogs to help find that person. One person could feature each month on ALL blogs. http://globalideasbank.org/site/bank/idea.php?ideaId=6187

This could also support rejoining of people after nature disasters and such - making it possible for people who are looking for the person to enter data about their whereabouts...

Is there any documentation on the geographical nature of missing peoples whereabouts ? I'm thinking that pictures should only be shown on blogs local in relation to the last known position of the missing person.

All very interesting feedback so far. I'll contact some missing person organisations and ask for their thoughts. Please feel free to add any further thoughts or suggestions.

Yes because it has a ready made metaphor...like the side of the milk carton on the side of a blog.

Yes because it has social significance

As an alternative idea, one may have website like (hypothetically)missinghuman.com. The photographs should be sorted out by geographical areas the person is missing from, area where he is likely to be, time since missing etc.

Statistically speaking, there are hundreds to thousands of missing people globally and millions of blogs. You need to identify the relevant blogs for each missing person. e.g. a person missing from New York needs to be searched in and around New York (primarily). You may have missing person news flash but more important is what all sites it would be useful to flash at. Ir relaevant flashes would lead to loss of interest of the bloggers.

To build on this idea, there should also be a way to find people faster... like feature someone that the police is searching for right now. i.e. immediate "missing person news flash".

I like this idea, John. I especially like the idea of geo-targetting the missing people ads. I think a number of bloggers would donate space on their blogs for such a worthy cause.
