I think that a single piece of hardware will become capable of virtually any functions. The software that you put onto these devices will determine how you use them. The interface for the iPhone is a great step towards this idea. You will be able to change the functionality without changing your device.
7.
is it going to be a cell phone with the functionality of a computer or a computer with the functionality of a cell phone?
6.
no. computers will be placed in the body. no need for a so-called cell phone relic, which functionality will be implemented as part of the human body, too. marshall mcleuhan (sp) said that we would wear circuitry under our skin.
5.
Aren't cellphones smaller, more customized computers? I think the real question here is what will the interface of technology (read: information) be in the future?
4.
It will depend on one critical factor: screen size. If a cellphone will be able to adopt "larger" screens as some research indicates (along electronic paper, foldable surfaces, etc) then the line between notebook, tabletpc, smartphone will desappear. To appeal to all categories of people a device that wants to show information MUST be able to show it comfortably.
3.
It would depend on the applications you need vis a vis memory required. For routine work , it may be possible, but not for business purposes.
2.
The iPhone is going to be a full-featured handheld computer. With that in my hand, I might never need to use my laptop.
