How to generate names for new businesses?

Challenges asking for names for new businesses are very popular on BrainReactions and I'd like to create a systematic way to approach such a problem. If a person is trying to create a name for a new business, what are the best, creative ways to go about it? What strategies - new or existing - can be used? What sources online may provide inspiration? How can they be systematic in their search and the generation of names?

Create new words as a category for your ideas. Businesses such as Skype, Zappos, Twitter, etc. use new words as their business name. Maybe focus on letters or words that resemble other words...like what is like "Hype?" -Skype, Trype, etc.
6.
Focus on a particular letter. The mind will connect better to think of names that begin with that letter. Go letter by letter with the most popular letters.

I guess the whole issue revolves around catching attention of potential client. These clients are usually short of time and surfing through search engines. Hence, my approach would be to define target population, use name which catches attention and use relevant publicity strategies.
4.
Look at words listed at #1 and see if the first or last syllable of a word can be used to trigger a related word that can be combined with first to form a new word. For example, a diet advice service could use the word "Nourishment" and use the last syllable "ment" to trigger "mentor" which gives, "Nourishmentor".
3.
After the stage mentioned in #1, look up synonyms for every word.
2.
Look at the names for existing businesses of that nature, and see if you can work out what though processes went into generating the name (eg, puns, clever wordplay, simplicity etc.)
1.
Write down everything you can think of about the business or subject matter and see if any information triggers possible names
