Open Brainstorms

How would you go about getting people to view Learning as an enjoyable pastime in the same way as sports, travel and other activities?

Most people look to acquire wealth, but not knowledge or education. We revere the sports hero but not the nobel prize winner. The pop diva makes millions for wailing and shaking her hips, but the cancer researcher works for peanuts. How can we tip things the other way -- lowering the reward for brainless activity?

Create a TV show that features the researchers and educators behind the "popular" pastimes. Showcase the person who developed the sound system for the pop diva's concerts. Look at the inventor who created new titanium golf club technology or protective football gear. If people understand how important education is to the world, it may become more of an aspiration.

Include the intellectual into the world of the pop star and make them easily accessible to the general public in a way that the public understands (e.g. tv shows like House, movies that are based on the life of a scientist, fiction novels that are scientific based, etc)

People in public life, like sportspersons, film actors etc. do make lot of money. However, they also take risk ofbodily injuries, work long hours and have limited time span for making money before fading offf. They also provide entertainment to large sections of mankind and so they deserve their earnings. However, I do agree that intellectual work needs more recognition and money.
