What are the ingredients of a great restaurant?
After sauntering from place to place, I see many restaurants catering to a wide array of tastes and budgets. Some seem to be doing exceptionally better while others are yearning for patrons to file past their doors. Why?

The ONLY thing that matters in a Restaurant is the food. People will forgive everything (location, bad service, decor) else if the food is perfect. It has to be clean too, but that is understood.

There is something in a name. A jazzy name gets people talking. Also the place must be clean, right down to the bathroom as well as the silverware. Quality service is key. An attentive and friendly waiter or waitress can make or break the experience. Food must be outstanding. You don't have to have 100 things on the menu. A dozen items done better than anyone else will make you stand out. Ambiance is important. Serve drinks in distinctive ware, like a ruby red mug, etc. Subtle music.

I think the restaurant should offer some really value for money food. The food should be soo good that once a person dines there, he / she should yearn to come back again & again. Also the food should have minimal artificial flavouring (like colours, etc.).so as to keep the food as natural & wholesome as hoome food.

Like any product, defning a target market is essential and setting the price accordingly is even more important. Even a not so great looking chinese fast food restaurant could do brisque business if they design their services according to their target market..for example late night free delivery..and low cost food or a great low cost buffet lunch/dinner. students generally see value for money.
20.
interaction by the people there...and whether it is a small scale pizza place or an up-scale restaurnt...i'd love it if a waiter/ cashier asked me how i found their food...did i like it or not?...this shows that they care about how your entire dining experience there..and not just the food part of it.
19.
the feel of the restaurant...what moods the people, their attire, the aroma of food in there, the sights and sounds inside the restaurant..all contribute to sum up to how loyal a customer you are going to be to the restaurant.

There is a restaurant in madison that serves brick oven pizza and there is no name on the store front. I like the fact that I am eating at an "underground" restaurant that never advertises. P.S it is always crowded
16.
The decorations are important to me. I like to feel like I am eating in a special place.
15.
Listen to your customers. Don't say No to them... if they want any changes, just make them.
8.
Great Service. Staff that makes you feel really important and takes good care of you. This includes the wait staff, the host and the chef's team.
7.
Know how to target your audience. If you are going for quality, serve the best ingredients possible or something special like local ingredients. If you are targeting families, make it comfortable, affordable but healthy. Make one thing your strength!
6.
New things always attract curiosity. A good restaurant has consistent food and may have an attractive feel. A great restaurant has that and attentive service, exceptional ingredients, and time to enjoy the experience.
5.
Know the taste and choice of people in that area and let the food taste according to their liking.then comes Ambience which`ll depend on the lind of restaurant.
4.
Harping about yourself is important i.e. advertise as much as possible to the target population'
2.
Lesser the competition, the better. e.g. A restaurant serving chinese food in India may do better than the same restaurant in China.
